On Thursday 31 Oct 2024 a ceremony was held in UNTSI, the Mil Col, to unveil a special display to the memory of Col Justin MacCarthy who was killed in a traffic accident in Leopoldville, Republic of Congo on 27 Oct 1960, while serving as Dep COS and Chief Ops Offr at HQ ONUC. 

Col MacCarthy’s son and his wife were welcomed by Col John Kilmartin EO & 2 I/C DFTC and Lieut Col Stephen Mac Eoin Sch Comdt UNTSI.

Three ONUC veterans, Des Keegan Post 25, Dennis Farrell Post 27 and Joe Guidera Post 11 were among the IUNVA members who attended the ceremony as was Frederick O’Reilly Post 11 who mounted the medals.
