This article recalls the death thirty years ago of Cpl Martin Tynan at an early age from natural causes in Dec 1992.
Cpl Martin Tynan (30) lived at Cowpasture, Monasterevin, Co Kildare with his wife Evelyn and their children Martin, Leona and Daryl. His home unit was Dep MP Corps at the Curragh Camp. He deployed to Lebanon with the MP Sec, HQ Coy, 72 Inf Bn in Nov 1992.
On Sunday 13 Dec he was on leave in the resort town of Netanya in Israel when he died suddenly from natural causes.
His coffin was repatriated through Dublin Airport on Wednesday 16 Dec and taken to Saints Peter and Paul Parish Church in Monasterevin. His Requiem Mass was celebrated at 1200 hours on Thursday and he was buried with full military honours in the New Cemetery.
The chief mourners were his wife and children, his mother Mrs Elizabeth Tynan, his brothers Larry and John, his sisters Margaret, Mary, Kathleen and Betty.
His son, Martin, joined the DF and while he was serving with 42 Inf Gp, UNIFIL during 2013, Cpl Martin Tynan laid a wreath at the Tibnine Memorial on the 21st anniversary of his father’s death and this year he, along with Maj Gen Adrian Ó Murchú DCS Sp, laid wreaths.
