We remember the death of Pte Gerard Hodges (33) 50 Inf Bn who died at the burns unit at Dr Steevens’ Hospital Dublin on 26 Mar 1982 from injuries suffered one month earlier in a petrol-fuelled M59 cooker explosion while he was serving with 50 Inf Bn UNIFIL.


He was flown home to Ireland in a Medevac by Ambulance Aircraft but he died from his injuries.

His home unit was CTD (S) Collins Bks Cork and he was attached to B Coy 12 Inf Bn, Kickham Bks, Clonmel.

He was buried in his home parish in Kilbonane Church Cemetery, Beaufort Bridge Co. Kerry.
