Pte Brendan Cummins (23), HQ Coy, 20 Inf Gp UNFICYP, died from natural causes on 11 Jun 1971.
He had been admitted to Princess Mary’s Hospital, RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus for treatment for heart disease and he passed away after an operation. His parent unit was 2 Inf Bn and he was on his first tour of duty with the UN.
He was single and from Ballyfermot Ave in Dublin. A funeral ceremony was held at Nicosia Airport before his remains were repatriated to Dublin Airport on Wednesday 18 Jun and taken to the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Ballyfermot. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Friday morning and he was buried at Glasnevin Cemetery.
He was survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs John Cummins, his brothers and sisters.
